Enology, the making of wine, and viticulture, the growing of grapes, are two growing industries locally and nationwide. To meet the growing demand for a skilled workforce, HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, offers an Enology and Viticulture Program designed to meet both the needs of the growing number of wineries in the region and the heightened interest in creating a higher quality wine. HACC’s enology and viticulture program was created to provide trained employees for the wine and grape industry in Pennsylvania and surrounding states on the East Coast. Commercial vineyards and wineries are thriving, and the industry continues to grow as new vineyards are planted and wineries are built. Foremost for these entrepreneurs is the production of high-quality wines, which requires a knowledgeable and skilled labor force. HACC’s curriculum is tailored to the conditions that make this area and its wines distinctive. HACC’s enology and viticulture program offers three options for study: completion of an associate degree, completion of a certificate or auditing individual courses for personal or professional enrichment.
HACC is extremely grateful to the family and friends of Helen Hauser, who died on March 7, 2012 at the age of 101, for establishing the Helen Hauser Memorial Scholarship Endowment to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in HACC’s Enology and Viticulture program. This scholarship fund is the College’s first scholarship to support this important program. Interested students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and complete a personal statement of 250 to 500 words explaining why the scholarship is important or necessary for their studies.
Please consider honoring Helen’s memory and love for Hauser Winery with a contribution to the Helen Hauser Memorial Scholarship to assist students with financial need who, like Helen, have a passion for growing grapes and producing high quality local wines.
